Another noteworthy statistic brought forth in the research shows that 43 percent of the respondents already had a partner when they visited a prostitute, meaning nearly 1.3 million guys over there are probably doing this on the sly, or at least trying to. The next statistic puts a bit of a damper on that, of course, insofar as it details the prevalence of STDs amongst the same group and shows that 1 in 5 have contracted an STD, most prominently gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and syphilis but with no reports of HIV.

The researchers acknowledged that the numbers are all probably leaning towards the lower end of the spectrum as there are likely to be some men who would not admit to having paid for sex in the past in much the same way few of us will willingly admit to having sat through a Wayans brothers movie or a CBS sitcom.

Overall, the data gleaned from the study of Brits can probably shed a similar light on things over on this side of the world , especially in terms of the prevalence of both being a hobbyist in secret and contracting disease, which are two of the biggest hazards out there. And while keeping what you do a secret if you happen to be in that 43% who are already involved with someone is your own prerogative, as that other stat points out you could be running some serious risks if you’re not careful.
